Biography	Né en Perse, il est d'origine purement arabe, descendant de la branche Marwānide des Umayyades.- Shīʿite.- À Bagdad, où il passe la majeure partie de sa vie, il est sous la protection des Būyides, et il est accueilli à Alèpe par la Cour du prince Ḥamdānid Sayf al-Dawla.- À travers ses principaux ouvrages, le Kītāb al-Aġānī, qui rassemble de nombreuses chansons et un ouvrage historiographique, il transmet des informations importantes sur la vie des poètes, le milieu des musiciens et chanteurs, des détails sur les tribus arabes anciennes, la vie de la Cour Ummayade, la société de l'époque et la biographie de personnages politiques, notament celles des descendants d'Abū Tālib
Biography	Born in Persia, he was from pure arabic origine, descendent of the Marwānid branch of the Umayyads.- Shīʿite.- In Bagdad, where he spent most of his life, he was under the Būyids's protection, and he was warmly welcomed in Aleppo by the court of the Ḥamdānid prince Sayf al-Dawla.- Through his two main works, the Kītāb al-Aġānī,which collects many songs, and a historiographic book, he delivers great informations on the poets' life, the milieu of musicians and singers, details on ancient Arabic tribes, the court's life under the Umayyads, the society of the time and the biography of some political figures, especially the descendent of Abū Tālib
