Summary |
This book is almost an encyclopedia in Qurʾān sciences, particularly, Quranic script which has a particular orthography. The book consists of a preface, an introduction, and two parts. Through the introduction, the author illustrates the basics of Arabic writing system, the history of writing down the Holy Qurʾān, with being gathered into a coherent whole text, and the number of Qurʾān first copies. Furthermore, he mentions the Qur'ʾān reciters among the Prophet companions, their successors, and followers of the successors. He also demonstrates the seven reciters who mastered the Qirā'āt (Quranic recitations) and their narrators by whom the Holy Quran recitations were historically transmitted in an approved and confirmed manner.etc. As for the first part, it illustrates the basics of the Uthmanic orthography of the Holy Qurʾān which is distinctively miraculous. In different contexts in Qu’ran, one word could exhibit a variety of distinct forms of orthographic constructions, either by adding, or deleting a letter for example or even by a total change in the word from in comparison with its standard. As for the second part, it demonstrates al-Farš which means a word by word illustration, according to the order of Suras (chapters of the Holy Qur'ān), hence the author provides each Quranic word detailed information in relation to script orthography, Qirā'āt recitations, and inflections. |
